coconutaminium trimethyl chloride - Introduction
Trimethyl coconut oil ammonium chloride (CTAC) is a surfactant with good cleaning and emulsifying properties. Its chemical formula is (CH3)3COCO(CH2)11 CH3Cl, and its structure is to add a dodecyl chain and a chloride ion to the coconut oil alcohol group.
CTAC has excellent surface active properties, can reduce the surface tension of the liquid, enhance dispersion, dissolution and wettability. It is often used in cosmetics, detergents, softeners, foaming agents, lubricants and other products. In addition, CTAC can also be used as a stabilizer and preservative for colloidal solutions.
The preparation of CTAC is usually obtained by acidification, esterification, reduction and chlorination of coconut oil or palm oil. The specific preparation method may include a transesterification reaction, a base-catalyzed reaction, and a chlorination reaction.
When using CTAC, pay attention to the following safety information: Avoid inhalation, contact with skin and eyes. In case of accidental contact, rinse immediately with plenty of water. Avoid mixing CTAC with strong oxidants and oxidizing substances to avoid dangerous reactions. Local safe operating procedures shall be observed during storage and handling.
